Fellow blogger Doctor of Credit has 2 interesting posts concerning some upcoming changes Chase is making to their more popular cards.
The 1st post: Doctor of Credit reports Chase is removing some benefits from the Chase Sapphire Reserve Card starting August 26th. The main changes are as follows:
- Airport Lounge Access: Priority Pass Select benefit goes from unlimited guests to 2 guests
- The Sapphire Reserve card offers $300 in automatic travel reimbursements each year. However, currently when you make a purchase the warrants the $300 reimbursement you still earn the 3X points for being a Travel category bonus spend. As of August 26th, you’ll no longer earn 3X for this $300 in spend. As a result, you will lose at max 900 is free Ultimate Rewards points
- Price protection is going away. This is the benefit of reimbursement for the difference in price on eligible items purchased when the price is advertised at a lower price after you buy it
The 2nd post: Doctor of Credit reports Chase will be releasing a new card product on May 20th, Chase Business Unlimited. This new card will feature a welcome bonus of $500 (50,000 Ultimate Rewards points) after $3,000 spend in 3 months. In my post Here, I detail how points are always better in my opinion than cash back. Also, If you have a premium Chase card like the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Reserve, you can transfer your 50,000 points to than card and utilize all of Chase’s wonderful travel benefits. It’s worth noting that the new Chase Business Preferred will earn 1.5X on all spend. Now, currently Chase Ink customers are earning 5X on certain categories, so you will have to decide if 5X on certain categories or 1.5X on all spend is better for you.
