Increased 70,000 Platinum Delta SkyMiles Credit Card Offer

Credit card sign up bonuses are the best time to earn a large quantity of miles or points. Recently the Delta SkyMiles credit cards from American Express have increased their sign up bonuses. Currently, the personal and business versions for the Platinum Delta SkyMiles credit card has a nice 70,000 mile sign up bonus. Likewise, the personal and business Gold Delta SkyMiles credit cards now offer a 50,000 sign up bonus.

Diversity is a very important aspect of collecting miles and points, because airline and hotel programs have been known to devalue or change their reward chart costing you more miles and points. Personally, I want to increase the number of miles I have in my Delta SkyMiles account, and applying for one of these increase sign up bonuses can help. Admittedly, I normally look toward Southwest and their Rapid Rewards program for domestic flights. However, Delta can provide some nice value because Southwest usually beats competitor prices mostly only on Tuesday and Thursdays.

My preference still lies with focusing on transferable programs like Chase Ultimate Rewards, American Express Membership Rewards, or Citi ThankYou Rewards because of the flexibility they provide. In fact, Delta SkyMiles is a transfer partner of Amex, so you can boost you SkyMiles account that way. However, 50,000 or 70,000 miles from an airline credit card offer is also nice.

As of today (my decision could change), I’m leaning toward applying for one of the Delta SkyMiles Business credit cards over the personal ones. Luckily, I was approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve while being over “5/24”, and business cards mostly do not show up on your credit report. Remember, “5/24” is Chase policy to not approve you for any new Chase credit card if you have been approved for more than 5 cards with any issuer within the past 24 months. I don’t want hurt my chances of future approvals, so I will be very selective on the personal cards I apply for going forth. Business cards can help with that. Stay tuned to future posts where I will go into business credit cards in more detail. Just know, you don’t necessarily have to have a business tax id number to get approved. You can use your social security number as a sole proprietor.

Redemption

As I mentioned above, Delta is a descent domestic flight option, however I would just pay the cash rate and save my miles unless Delta offers a mileage sale. As part of the SkyTeam Alliance, you have the option to book flights on KLM, Air France, or Alitalia which all have great business class products, if you are looking to cross the pond.

I found availability for non stop flights from ATL to CDG in July 2017 flying Air France business class for only 70,000 miles + 5.60 in taxes and fees. You can earn the 70,000 miles from either the personal or business Platinum Delta SkyMiles cards.
