Yes, you read that correct. The travel world is going crazy.
You can now transfer your Chase Ultimate Rewards points at at 1:1 ratio to Emirates Skywards. Now, if you don’t know much about Emirates, they are constantly at the top of any best airlines to fly with a great hard and soft product. Not to mention, a few extra amenities like the sky bar everyone has seen in the commercials.
Being a transfer partner of Chase is one thing, but redeeming the points for value is another. As I always preach, redeeming your points for excellent value is the hard part. Depending you where you fly, Skywards redemptions can cost several 100K points. So, unless, you have a boat load of points laying around, you probably can’t and shouldn’t book those flights.
One can get from New York to Milan (JFK – MXP) in Business class for 90,000 round trip Skywards at the Saver Level. I will admit, Emirates does charge a hefty surcharge on some award redemptions; which on this flight is about $1,100 round trip…yikes. I mention business class because business class will get fully lie flat seats and access to the Sky bar….toast up.
Another option, would be to use the Emirates program to book flights on their partner airlines like Jet Blue, Qantas, and Japan Airlines.
In conclusion, I’m excited about having another Chase transfer partner even though many will say the total redemption cost will be too expensive when considering fees. However, if you can afford the surcharge fees, want an experience, and don’t want to spend $3,000-5000 for business class seats; I say go for it. Plus, a sky bar to drink and relax, may be worth it.
I’m still considering it because I do plan to go to Italy next year, so we will see.
